What Breathwork Facilitators Earn in Australia

Why the number does not exist

You cannot survey an occupation that is not one.

Australia regulates sixteen health professions nationally through Ahpra, and breathwork is not among them. Without registration there is no population to sample, no membership list that captures everyone, and no way to distinguish somebody running two sessions a month alongside a salaried job from somebody with a full practice. Any survey would be answering a different question depending on who replied.

This is more useful than it sounds. A quoted average would tell you almost nothing anyway, because income in this work is not a property of the profession. It is a property of your price, your capacity, your costs and how long you last. All four are things you can calculate now, before you spend anything.

What this page will not do. Tell you what you will earn, promise a replacement income, or suggest this is passive. What it will do is show you the shape of the arithmetic honestly enough that you can decide whether the shape works for your life.

What the arithmetic keeps showing

Four things that hold true whatever you entered.

Groups carry the practice, one-to-one carries the reputation. Almost every model that works has both. Groups produce the income and the referrals. One-to-one produces the depth, the case knowledge, and the people who tell somebody else about you.
The ceiling is hours, not price. This is the part nobody says. You can raise your price, and you should, but a practice built only on your physical presence has a hard capacity limit that arrives sooner than expected. Every sustainable practitioner eventually adds something that is not you in a room.
The unpaid hours are the real number. If you are running at one and a half unpaid hours for every paid one, your effective rate is a fraction of your session price. That ratio, not your price, is what makes this feel unviable in year two.
Almost nobody replaces an income in year one. The people who last treat the first year as building, keep another income stream, and are not forced to take clients they should refer out. Financial pressure is the most common reason a facilitator works outside their scope.

The honest read. This work can be a genuine profession and it can be a genuine income. It is rarely a fast one, and the arithmetic above is the reason. Anybody selling you a training on a promised figure is selling you a number they cannot possibly know.
